Angela Frayre-Thompson, April 2010

Congratulations to Angela and Lanny, they had a beautiful ceremony at Christ the King Lutheran Church, and reception at Loma Linda Events.  This was one of my favorite spring color combos. The flowers we used for her event were green cymbidium orchids, orange and coral tulips, "flame" calla lilies, ivory ranunculus, and blooming yellow forsythia branches.  The dresses were a soft clover green and chocolate and the bouquets complimented the gowns beautifully.  The aisle was staged with wrought-iron candle stands embellished with floral clusters and forsythia branches.  Photos by MarieQ.com

4 Quick tips on making your fresh flowers last longer

  • Change the Water!  The biggest assumption is that if you or your florist puts flower food in the water the first time, that is enough to help your flowers last.  Wrong!  Change the water as often as possible.  All parts of a flower that are submerged in water start to grow bacteria, no matter how much flower food.  That is what shortens flower life, so the cleaner the better.

  • Cut the stems again.  When you change the water cut the stems.  Just an inch will be fine.  Stems start to seal up, so a fresh cut opens up the stem to drink better.

  • Don't burn up your flowers.  That means no direct sunlight and in a cool environment (not over 74 degrees Fahrenheit)

  • Inspect flowers before buying.  Make sure the stems are firm and the petals are not starting to wilt.  Check leaves for brown spots. Old roses may also have brittle leaves.

ENJOY! Courtney
